My Space for Self-Reflection and Sharing
Where To Start....
Well let's start from right here and right now. With each new beginning and each new experience you get given a bonus package, you get a variety of feelings happy and excited ones, some little niggling worries and concerns of how you are going to adapt to the changes and of how you are going to cope, you get quite a few questions and luckily for us, helpful tutors who give us a lot of the answers. This experience is no different. As with any new experience we start off unsure if what to expect, unsure of what it entails, but having had quite a number of life experiences behind us, we come better equipped as we get older to face challenges, using and lending from strategies and coping mechanisms that would have worked in other situations, to help us process and work through our new experiences and challenges.
As I started to read through the first handbook I began to experience different emotions and while I continued to read, I started to put what I read in the context of my work and experience and started to reflect on my work and the challenges I face, to decide what part of my work would benefit best from careful analysis and focus of energy and what area I would like to work on. I considered the area of assessment which over the years I have worked on and developed, but which I still find unsatisfactory and which yearly leaves me feeling that I am not making the best use of this tool and that I can get better outcomes with adjustments. When I concluded with myself what I thought to discuss with my tutor as a possible area of learning, I suddenly felt very excited as this is definitely an area that needs work, that I would like to get support in and now have the opportunity to tackle and work on.
So as I conclude my first blog entry, I would like to express that I am very excited and grateful that I have this opportunity to reflect, dissect and analyse my practice with the support of my tutors and all my online peers, who might work in similar or not so similar work settings and who may be experiencing similar challenges as me. As well as having this exciting and challenging opportunity to grow and learn and become better at what I do and making me better equipped to bring the very best out of my students.
