Research, data collection, analysis and triangulation

Last Wednesday's group call revovled mainly around research, data collection, analysis of the data and triangulation. These terms seem to me, to sum up the main elements of this third module. Each one of us in our own unique way, in our own practice and in our own context have the opportunity this term to work with these elements.
It was very interesting to see how although working with different research subjects and in differeny contexts, we all seemed to share similar views and ideas of this process we are in during this module and many of us seemed to share common queries and questions.
I also found it very interesting to note that we managed to answer many of our queries and questions be deconstructing the very language of the various elements we need to work with, to enable us to better understand them and also to understand how to apply them to our own individual research projects. Through the very process of articulating  and defining the very terms, we were able to better understand what the very process that we are working through actually entails.
When discussing research,  we elaborated on what we understood to be qualitative research since it happened to be the type of research we all found to be suitable to pick. When talking about data collection we referred to it as an opportunity to open a door into other people's experiences regarding the subject of the research we chose, as well as, to broaden our own perspective by  learning about other people's opinions and responses to the same subject. We spoke of analysis as a detailed examination where one would bring the various perspectives together, where we one would try to find connections, asking why, how and what the data is presenting, by assimilating, evaluating and weighing and looking at the same subject through different lenses and making a detailed examination of the perspectives that present themselves from the data collected. Finally we discussed triangulation, where we spoke of the strong pyramid, the three sides coming together, to make for a strong structure and a sound research,  where the 3 voices, our experience with the subject,  the data which includes other people's voices and reactions to the subject and then both individually and the literature about the subject,  all three sides in the process of triangulation are brought together to be analysed where instead of remaining isolated, the three sides as one, are brought to bear testament to the research in their own individual way, supporting and complementing each other to make for a sound conclusion.

  1. Hi Katya i really liked the part you wrote about :
using it as an opportunity to open a door into other people's experiences regarding the subject of the research we chose, as well as, to broaden our own perspective by learning about other people's opinions and responses to the same subject.

This stood out to me as i feel this lense and perspective is leading the way for more research for me at the moment. i didn't think that using other peoples experience would lead me directly to think about my own experience and how they are connected . i had been looking it in a almost selfish way.\\

defiantly something for me to think about and embrace.
